As of mid-October, experts estimated that suppression and containment costs for the Mullen Fire in southeast Wyoming would surpass $33 million.

“If you don’t count the 1988 Yellowstone fires … which, I don’t, because those were so many fires that burned together, this is the largest fire we have had in the state since we have been keeping track of fire size,” Wyoming State Forester Bill Crapser said, adding that the Mullen Fire will likely end up the incident with the largest financial impact, as well.
