RIVERTON - The first of three congressional debates was held Sunday night with Chris Rothfuss, an instructor at the University of Wyoming and the Democratic challenger debating incumbent Republican Senator Mike Enzi. The current financial situation was a main point of discussion, with Enzi blaming Democratic social programs that "encouraged people to get loans that they couldn't afford" and Rothfuss blaming congress for failing to properly regulate this critical section of the economy.

Moderators were Geoff O'Gara, senior producer from Wyoming Public Television and Dennis Curran, executive editor and publisher of the Wyoming Business Report.

The debates were broadcast live at 7 p.m. on Wyoming Public Television and simulcast on Wyoming Public Radio. If you missed Sunday's debate, you can catch up by watching it online at the following link: http://wyomingpbs.com/media/?vid=debate_1026.flv.

Tonight, the debate will feature the hotly contested race for Wyoming's lone House seat, with Democrat Gary Trauner, Republican Cynthia Lummis and Libertarian W. David Herbert squaring off. O'Gara and Wyoming Public Radio News Director Bob Beck will serve as moderators.

The final debate on Tuesday will be between challenger Nick Carter, a Democrat and sitting Senator John Barrasso, who was appointed to fill the late Sen. Craig Thomas' seat. The winner of the election on Nov. 4 will serve the remaining four years of Sen. Thomas' term. O'Gara and Wyoming Business Report eDaily editor MJ Clark will be moderators.
