The list was compiled over 50 years by a retired high school teacher who calls the list "In Search of Eden." He began the list 37 years ago when looking for a place to move his young family and only recently finished the list after various postponements, including losing all the original data in a house fire that also took his mother's life. He said he sees the list as a way to aid other young families in finding a great place to live.
Cody is one of only a handful of cities in the West called out by Charles Anderson, who lives in Florida and formerly resided in Michigan. Montrose, Colo. took the No. 2 position; Cedar City, Utah came in at No. 5; Seward, Neb. Was No. 7; and Windsor, Colo. came in at No. 11. Top honors went to Gettysburg, Pa., with its rich ties to history.
According to the Cody Enterprise, Anderson traveled personally to every state but Hawaii to research his list.
"Cody is a neat town," Anderson told the Enterprise.
Anderson is looking for a place to publish his list on a national scale, perhaps through a magazine and/or the Internet. The list was originally destined for the Saturday Evening Post.
