Last year, Small Business Saturday gave a boost to entrepreneurs all over the country, with more than 100 million Americans shopping at independently-owned small businesses. And this year we can do even better!
Entrepreneurs take risks. They often invest their own capital and work very long hours to achieve profits and hire new workers. But they need you, the local consumer, to buy their goods and services. Without your individual support, they cannot survive.
So what can you do to participate?
- If you are a customer, simply shop at small businesses on November 24th.
- You may also learn which businesses in your community are participating in Small Business Saturday at www.shopsmall.com The website provides information on businesses currently registered and how you can rally your community to support the initiative.
- If you are a business owner, you can receive free Small Business Saturday promotional materials at www.shopsmall.com. You can also make sure you’re prepared for the holiday season by checking out SBA’s advice at www.sba.gov/saturday.
So, as you consider your holiday shopping plans this week, let’s do our part to support America’s small businesses. When you patronize local small businesses, you are essentially giving money back to the local community. Your relationship with them fosters customer loyalty and high levels of customer service. This loyalty means that small businesses are often able to invest in innovative products and services that require creative, talented employees.
